The architectural intention is to construct a high quality contemporary two storey extension to an existing cut stone cottage. It is intended to refurbish the existing cottage and provide a glazed link to the new extension.
The ground floor extension level consists of a living / dining areas with an external terrace which oversails the garden below. The sloping nature of the site is used to great effect to sink a semi basement level of bedroom accomodation / storage and wine celler. This base layer supports a light and transparent upper storey. The upper level will be constructed of lightweight materials such as glass and a zinc / copper roof with timber uprights establishing a garden pavillion within this sylvan setting .Using high standards of energy efficiency in material selection a contemporary and sustainable design can be achieved.
