We were commissioned by the London based wine merchants Berry Bros. & Rudd to work on the refurbishment of their first retail operation in Ireland. The project, which has been a feat of architectural conservation, when the refurbished old weights and measures building off Grafton Street in Dublin opened its doors to the public as a retail wine shop. The building features a restored traditional facade, with a new and bright contemporary interior on three levels – a ground floor retail area refitted with 100 year old salvage floorboards; a temperature controlled basement area with vaulted wine storage bays and on the first floor a private area for wine tasting and wine education. A priority of the refurbishment has been the retention of many original features of architectural or aesthetic importance, including all fireplaces and the external warehouse doors.
